Emergency lighting business secures £3.8m for international expansion drive

Walsall emergency lighting business Mackwell has secured a £3.85m funding package to support a further international expansion drive.

Mackwell is a specialist in developing and manufacturing emergency lighting solutions to aid safe evacuation from buildings.

The business currently exports its products to a large network of clients across Europe, Middle East, Asia and South America.

The finance package from HSBC includes working capital and trade facilities.

Mackwell will use the funding to grow its presence in strategic territories, taking advantage of the burgeoning development in the building and construction sectors and the drive for IOT connected emergency evacuation systems.

The business aims to further increase its overseas exporting figures from 60% to 80% on the back of its new Origin technology platform, which now offers detailed analytics capability across its XYLUX emergency lighting portfolio.

Nick Brangwin, CEO of Mackwell, said: “With plans to expand our global footprint, we needed the backing of a bank with strong international connections. Thanks to the support of our HSBC UK Relationship Director, Gary Riley, we’ve been able to drive forward our expansion programme with sound financial backing.”

David Ramsden, head of corporate banking, North and South West Midlands, HSBC UK, said: “HSBC UK has a well-earned reputation for connecting British businesses to international opportunities and we’re delighted to be able to support another Midlands-based business as it looks to increase its exports. Mackwell has a strong growth plan for the expansion of its export business and HSBC UK is perfectly placed to help the business meet its ambitious targets.”

Mackwell celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year.
