Acquisitive group in £7m deal for consultancy

A Worcestershire health and safety business has been bought by stock market group Marlowe in a deal worth up to £7.2m.

Quantum Compliance, based in Stoke Prior near Bromsgrove, provides health and safety consultancy services across the UK to clients including Savills, Interserve and Workman.

Marlowe is an acquisitive group and Quantum is its fifth purchase in a year, following deals for William Martin, Atana, Suez WCS and Tersus.

The group looks to purchase businesses operating in its four core areas – health and safety, fire safety and security, water treatment and hygiene, and air quality – which are regulated services generating recurring revenues.

Quantum conducts health and safety audit and consultancy services for 8,000 commercial properties each year, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Alex Dacre, chief executive of Marlowe, said: “Following our recent acquisition of William Martin, the addition of Quantum to the group further strengthens Marlowe’s leading position in the property-related health, safety and compliance sector and enhances our ability to provide an end-to-end solution for our customers’ safety and regulatory compliance needs.”

The deal will see Marlowe pay £4.0m initially, with further payments of up to £3.2m dependent on targets being met.

Quantum, which was founded in 2003, recorded pre-tax profits of £0.5m on revenues of £4.5m in the year to June 2018.
