Airline adds competition to Birmingham-Glasgow route

EasyJet has announced it will launch flights between Glasgow and Birmingham next year.

The move comes as the airline pushes ahead with an expansion of its operations at Scotland’s second busiest airport.

Initially there will be up to two flights a day when the service launches on March 29, 2020.

EasyJet is to base a fifth aircraft at Glasgow as part of the expansion that will create around 50 jobs among pilots, cabin crew and ground staff.

Exact schedules have yet to be finalised. And expect other routes to be announced in future.

The company said: “We plan to add new routes and increase our capacity on some existing routes too where we have seen strong demand.

“We are finalising this programme and will be able to update you further soon.”

UK country manager Ali Gayward said: “EasyJet has selected Glasgow as the focus of its growth in Scotland and we are excited about the future at Glasgow.

“The addition of another aircraft will help us to deliver long-term, sustainable growth at the base, providing customers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.”

Currently Flybe operates flights between Birmingham-Glasgow up to seven times a day.
