Electric vehicle scheme on the charge in Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton’s first phase of BP Chargemasters have been installed to encourage more electric vehicles in the city.

The first BP Chargemaster went live yesterday and is in full operation at Clifton Street car park in Chapel Ash.

Phase one of the project identified six key locations across the city for the new BP Chargemaster charging points to be installed.

Electric vehicles will benefit from 2 hours free parking when charging.

Cllr Steve Evans, cabinet member for city environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: “The move towards electric vehicles will improve air quality, reduce noise on our roads and benefit public health.

“The new charging points will also inevitably attract more drivers to visit, live and work in Wolverhampton and will therefore benefit the local economy.”

The remaining charging points will be operational by the end of the month.

Now phase one is complete, the city council is working to identify further key locations to install additional charging points across the city.
