People: Manufacturing Technology Centre appoints telecomms heavyweight as chairman; Mercian Labels hires operations director; and more

The Manufacturing Technology Centre has appointed Sir David Brown as chairman.

Sir David Brings a wealth of experience to the MTC following a career in telecommunications and electronics, including chairman of Motorola and chairman of BSI.

Sir David is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Chartered Engineer and a past president of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

He said: “I have been greatly impressed by the contribution that the MTC has made to UK manufacturing and I am very much looking forward to joining the Board as the MTC embarks on the next phase of its development.”

Sir David succeeds Alex Stephenson, who has been instrumental in guiding the MTC through a period of growth while delivering productivity benefits to manufacturing companies across several sectors.

Chief executive Dr Clive Hickman said: “I would like to thank Alex Stephenson for his unwavering support for the MTC during his tenure. He has been a fantastic advocate for Great British manufacturing.

“I am looking forward to working with Sir David, as we embark on the next stage of our remarkable journey.”

Mercian Labels has recruited Jean Michel Sintome as operations director.

Sintome brings a wealth of operational leadership expertise, as well as experience in building high performance teams, delivering business transformation and introducing dynamic culture change programmes.

He has worked in a variety of relevant capacities as operations director, manufacturing director and quality director in World Class, blue-chip corporations such as Pernod Ricard and IDEMIA, as well as international companies in the nuclear, oil and gas, engineering, defence and technology sectors.

Mercian Labels is one of the oldest and most innovative self-adhesive label manufacturers in the UK. It operates from a state-of-the-art factory in Burntwood, Staffordshire and employs approximately 50 people.

It serves some 9,000 business customers worldwide.

West Midlands PR agency,Make More Noise has recently expanded its team.

Founded in 2015, the agency provides B2B and B2C businesses with services in Public Relations, Marketing and Social Media Management now to be supported by the appointments of Elenor Rigby and John Bowen.

Having previously worked in an agency setting, Bowen boasts a wealth of B2B and B2C experience. He led one of Weber Shandwick’s most award-winning campaigns of all time, the ‘We Believe in D&T’ programme for The Design and Technology Association. The campaign was the winner of a coveted Gold Lion at the Cannes Festival of Creativity.

Rigby recently graduated with a first from Coventry University in Media and Communications.
