Hello West Midlands!

TODAY sees the launch of a new online regional business news service for the West Midlands. TheBusinessDesk.com West Midlands is headed up by former Birmingham Post editor Marc Reeves, and follows the success of online services dedicated to providing business news in Yorkshire and the North West.

The free service will provide news, information and events for the West Midlands business community, delivered every weekday morning via email alerts direct to the user.

Updated daily, TheBusinessDesk.com will be the only website dedicated to West Midlands’ business news and information, rather than being a general news website or following a print publication.  The concept was launched in November 2007 in Yorkshire, with a second website being launched for the North West in September 2008.

Marc Reeves said: “TheBusinessDesk.com is a fast-growing online business which has enjoyed phenomenal success in Yorkshire and the North West, building up a following of more than 30,000 registered users.  As traditional media has struggled to remain viable, this concept which provides up-to-the-minute, informed regional business news free and direct to the user, is proving extremely popular with professionals and entrepreneurs alike,”

“Having spent more than 25 years in newspapers, this is an exciting new venture for me which fits perfectly with my interest in online journalism and social media networks.  I believe TheBusinessDesk.com will fill a real need here for daily regional business news delivered in a clear and easily accessible format.”

David and Marc LaptopBased in Birmingham, the West Midlands operation will employ a four-strong team including award-winning business journalists.  It is aimed at the thousands of entrepreneurs, chief executives, senior managers and business professionals operating throughout the region.

Commercial launch partners include international law firm Hammonds, accountants BDO, and serviced office and property specialists Bruntwood.

With the tagline “tomorrow’s news today”, the site offers up-to-the-minute information on regional business.  Registered users will have free-of-charge access to the latest business headlines including corporate finance deals, quoted and private company results and announcements, commercial property deals and key appointments.  The service will also offer exclusive interviews with key figures in the West Midlands business community, lifestyle and property features and hard-hitting comment on regional business issues.

Users can choose to receive daily email or text alerts direct to their desktop, and the service is fully compatible with mobile phone, pda devices and BlackBerry.

David Parkin, group managing editor of TheBusinessDesk.com, said: “One of the secrets of our success is bringing on board the very best regional journalists with the experience, real understanding and contacts to work closely with the business community.  As one of the best known and most respected journalists in the West Midlands, Marc will play a key part in helping us to replicate the success we have enjoyed elsewhere, helping us to provide a much-needed daily source of trusted business news.”
