Fast growing businesses urged to pitch for management

AN INNOVATIVE recruitment concept which enables fast-growing businesses to pitch for the talent they need to sustain their development is returning to Birmingham.

The latest Pitching for Management event takes place at the offices of BDO in Colmore Row at 6pm tomorrow.

Pitching for Management works by matching senior executives seeking new challenges with fast-growth businesses needing their particular skills in order to expand.

Companies pitch to a room of senior management in the hope of finding the people they need. The concept has achieved major results in other areas and now West Midlands-based venture capital company Midven is hoping this can be repeated at tomorrow’s event.

The fund manager is sponsoring the pitching slots at the event meaning local businesses will be able to present free of charge.

The event is being supported by law firm Wragge & Co and is being held in association with Intramezzo, a senior talent source and UKBI, the professional body for the business incubation industry.

The best pitch on the night as voted by the audience will present at the Pitching for Management finale on December 13 in Bristol, where they will be up against other regions for a chance to win £2.000.

Roger Wood, director at Midven, said: “We are delighted to support the event and enable six entrepreneurial companies to pitch their business to an audience of experienced business people and potentially enable them to establish a range of new and valuable commercial contacts that they would not have been otherwise able to.”

More than 60 people turned up to the launch event at Wragge & Co and the law firm said it was hoped the latest session would be even better attended.

Richard Goold, Wragge & Co corporate director, said: “The launch event in Birmingham was a great success, with budding entrepreneurs making some really impressive pitches. As a Birmingham-headquartered firm, we are pleased to be actively involved in this novel concept which supports the growth of entrepreneurial businesses in the region.”

John Stephan, partner at BDO, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the second of these events in Birmingham. As a firm with a long history of working with entrepreneurial clients, BDO is pleased to be able to support the concept.”
