New executive MBA to be launched by Aston Business School

ASTON University’s Business School is to launch a new MBA for senior executives, following research that called for a different style of leader for the 21st century.

The Executive MBA (EMBA) has been born out of a 2009 study by the Association of MBAs. which said that, in today’s post downturn era, the qualification needed to focus more on managing in uncertain times, innovative and effective people management and risk management.
The report also called for MBA graduates to focus more on sustainability and business ethics and less on profit, shareholders and high risk strategies.
Dr Brigitte Nicoulaud, director of MBA programmes at Aston Business School, said the qualification, which is aimed at managers with five years’ senior experience, will focus on developing an executive’s performance by improving their people management skills and placing an emphasis on business coaching.
It will also encompass a CONNECT module – the first of its kind in the UK – which allows candidates to map out future career progression and identify personal skills (negotiation and communication skills, time management, problem solving etc) that need to be developed.

These components sit alongside subjects such as ethics and sustainability, crisis management and media awareness, developing an energised work culture and change management to create a programme which will develop global leaders with the skills to inspire their workforce, remain agile in uncertain times and create successful business solutions.

“This high-level MBA has been specifically developed to create a new type of leader – one who is exceptionally innovative and responsive to changing times, possesses a range of transformational skills, leads highly motivated, performance-driven teams and has the personal attributes required for continuous career progression,” said Dr Nicoulaud.

“The business world is changing – so our leaders need to change accordingly.”
