Fashion chain fills gap at Midlands business park

GLOBAL fashion brand Gap has moved into the West Midlands to launch its online retail business in the UK.

The clothes chain has chosen ProLogis Park, in Stafford, as its distribution centre and taken a 230,347 sq ft warehouse unit.

The park, which was completed in June 2007, is now fully let with Gap joining Screwfix, luxury goods group WWRD Holdings and plumbing products retailer Altecnic.

ProLogis, which has an office in Solihull, said Gap did not wish to disclose the length of the lease in Stafford.

Andrew Griffiths, managing director of ProLogis UK, said: “We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Gap for the development of its online business.

“The demand for quality distribution space from the e-commerce sector has continued to be strong despite the difficult economic conditions.

“We have benefitted from having high specification facilities available in great locations and we were able to implement tailored fit-out solutions.

“It is pleasing to announce a further significant investment in the economy of Staffordshire from a major international business, following the recent local transactions with M&S, Dunelm Mill and WWRD.”

A spokesperson for Gap said: “Location was paramount for the launch of our online operations and the distribution network is unbeatable at ProLogis Park Stafford.

“Energy efficiency is also high on the Gap agenda. Our new facility will enable us to offer customers in the UK great service with faster in-country fulfilment and no hidden fees.”
