Grand Hotel could get £30m facelift

THE Grand Hotel in Birmingham’s Colmore Row may soon be redeveloped, according to reports.

It is understood that owner Hortons Estate has drawn up plans for a £30m revamp which will include retaining its listed features. The hotel has been out of use for decades, partly because of restrictions on its development imposed by its listed status.

But now plans to turn it into a luxury 152 room hotel with a new main entrance on Church Street are to be submitted to Birmingham City Council and reports suggest that a well-known international hotel operator is showing interest in the project.

It is reported that the shops which form part of the hotel on Colmore Row will also be refurbished.
