Beer and business do mix, women told

BUSINESSWOMEN are being encouraged to become ‘beer beauties’ with a city-centre networking event with a twist.

Journalist and broadcaster Marverine Cole has launched the ‘Beer Beauty’ networking event to encourage women in the region to socialise and network while learning about – and tasting – real ales. Ms Cole  said: “I got the idea when I filmed a documentary for the BBC about women and beer. What was compelling was that research shows the beer industry’s efforts to try and shake off its old-fashioned image appear to be working.”

She said the number of women drinking cask beer – real ale – in Britain’s pubs has more than doubled in the past year to 1.3m.

“It also became clear that so many women are uninitiated about beer and about how to make an informed choice about what to drink, so I reckoned it was high time I did my bit to rectify things!”

The event will be held at 6pm at The Studio, Cannon Street, Birmingham on September 8. Places are limited to 50, costing £7 per head. Details are available from the Beer Beauty website .

Ms Cole said:  “This isn’t a commercial enterprise for me – I already run my own corporate video business – I’m doing it because I love exploring the world of real ale. Purity Ales based in Warwickshire, Holdens Breweries of Dudley and Marstons are all sponsoring the launch Beer Beauty event, so they’ll be providing samples of their different types of beer, and I’ll be dispelling some myths about beer and explaining some fascinating beer facts.”
