Fencing firm all wired up after £1m investment heralds new jobs

A WARWICKSHIRE wire fencing manufacturer has invested £1m in new machinery to help support growth and new jobs.

Tornado Wire, which employs 75 people and is headquartered in Bidford-on-Avon, develops fencing products for the agricultural, equestrian and industrial markets. It was the first company to manufacture high tensile fencing in the UK.

The growth strategy will see it employ seven new members of staff as it looks to tap into new markets both in the UK and abroad with the launch of a revolution new type of fencing.

The business, which has an annual turnover of £14.5m, approached Smith Cooper’s Birmingham office for audit and tax advice ahead of launching its latest innovation, Torus, a high-pressure bonded knot fencing with the strength to withstand the most extreme environments.

The advice saw the firm purchase a new machine to manufacture the fencing.

Kenny Campbell, managing director at Tornado Wire, said: “Tornado Wire is a progressive business that is always looking at ways to innovate. It is a testament to the company that, even as the economy continues to flatline, we are in a strong position to create new jobs and further our programme of investment into new products like Torus.

“We have worked closely with Smith Cooper for many years, over which time the firm has helped us to grow our sales into what was a record year in 2011. Sound business and financial advice is vital to a company like ours that continues to innovate and expand.”

Jeremy Cope, lead partner at Smith Cooper’s Birmingham office, said: “Tornado Wire is an important employer in the Midlands and we are keen to support forward-thinking businesses like them to continue to grow. This latest machinery heralds a new era for the business as it enables them to move into emerging areas which will ultimately further boost their sales.

“Manufacturing is at the heart of this country and is vital to generating economic growth, so by working closely with the management teams of companies like Tornado Wire we can help to ensure that they have the right guidance and support needed to drive their businesses forward.”
