Tory Conference: Business leaders welcome transport initiatives

BUSINESS leaders have welcomed the announcement by the Highways Agency of a number of improvements to the West Midlands roads network.
Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group said the work, part of a £217m national programme announced by transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, would support several strategic assets.

Another key transport project for the reagion is the missing link between M54 and M6 northbound/M6 Toll. It was a key plank of the ill-fated West Midlands RSS and will be a key driver for the economy of Telford/Shropshire through to the North Black Country and Stffordshire area, while linking up JLR at Wobaston Road with Ellesmere Port as well as the Birmingham and Coventry operations. The link road's value has not lessened since its inclusion as key infrastructure in the Regional Transport Plan and the RSS, for economic regeneration.
