Birmingham Science Park celebrates three decades in business

BIRMINGHAM Science Park will mark its 30th birthday tomorrow with a neon-themed street party and tech entrepreneurs showcase.

Some 350 people are expected to to attend the event which is being sponsored by East End Foods.

To mark the occasion Jason Wouhra, director of East End Foods, will act as head chef.

To bring the neon theme to life, the party venue – the atrium of the science park’s flagship Faraday Wharf building – will be lit up by lighting technology specialist amBX. Music will be provided by science park tenant Soshi Games, creator of the Facebook app Music Festivals Game.

Sir Albert Bore, leader of Birmingham City Council and chairman of Birmingham Science Park said: “It is testament to Birmingham’s foresight over 30 years ago that this science park is one of the oldest in the country. But, what matters more today is that it continues to enjoy an exceptionally high profile regionally, nationally and internationally for its flagship initiatives.

“Over 60 start-up technology businesses have been created at Birmingham Science Park during the past three years. The growth of these innovative companies could make a real difference to the city’s economic performance, with many high value jobs being created in the process.

“The park’s 30th birthday event will provide an opportunity for our knowledge economy-focused community to unite and look ahead to the next 30 years of tech innovation being born and nurtured here in Birmingham.”
