Private equity deals on the up – Gateley

LAW firm Gateley has reported a significant uplift in private equity-driven deals during the last 12 months.

The firm’s private equity team has advised on over 30 private equity based transactions this year with an aggregate deal value of more than £1bn.

Key private equity deals the firm has advised on include the LDC-backed MBO of Dale Power Solutions, the sale of Amtico International to US floor designer and manufacturer, Mannington Mills, the merger of recruitment groups Pertemps and Network with investment from LDC and advising private equity manager, Maven Capital Partners on its funding package in support of the MBO of Cat Tech International from US environmental services business, Clean Harbors Inc.

Paul Hayward, corporate partner at Gateley and lead adviser on the Dale Power Solutions deal, said:  “Private equity investors continue to play a vitally important role in developing businesses in a challenging market and as the economy improves we expect to see a significant increase in this type of activity.

“The private equity team at Gateley has experienced an encouraging 12 months for deal-making in this sector, advising on all stages of private equity funded deals.”

The news follows research carried out by Gateley revealing that private equity investment is also set to play a bigger part in funding turnaround deals and restructuring packages in the next two years, as the banks continue to scrutinise their leveraged finance offerings.

The research was based on a survey of more than 125 corporate restructuring professionals, with 91% of those questioned admitting that alternative sources of finance would become more prominent – a 39% increase on 2011 figures.
