Cobbetts advises Whitbread on new airport hotel deal

HOTEL and restaurant group Whitbread has opened its largest ever Premier Inn hotel at London Gatwick Airport in a deal advised by real estate lawyers in Birmingham.

The 630-bed hotel contains the 50,000th Premier Inn bedroom, a major milestone for the business, and has created 77 new jobs for people in the local area.  Premier Inn Gatwick is one of nine Premier Inn hotels that have been built in London over the last 12 months.

The real estate team at Cobbetts in Birmingham acted on behalf of Whitbread to secure a hotel deal across the three major airports in London, with new Premier Inn hotels opening at London Stansted Airport and Heathrow Terminal 5 earlier this year.

Paul Inman, partner and head of real estate at Cobbetts, said: “We’re pleased to have been able to assist Whitbread on opening its 50,000th room and look forward to working with Whitbread further over the coming years. 2012 has been a fantastic year for the business and 2013 looks set to be equally successful.”

Derek Griffin, head of Acquisitions (Greater London) at Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants added: “It’s been a very good year for Whitbread, and we continue to aggressively expand Premier Inn to gain increased market share.

“This year, we plan to have opened 4,500 new Premier Inn bedrooms and London continues to be a major focus of our growth with 33% of our development pipeline within the M25.  To hit our 65,000 Premier Inn bedroom target by 2016 we need suppliers which understand our business and can work to tight timeframes.

“We have been well supported by the team at Cobbetts, who consistently provided valuable advice across the various projects, ensuring that all deals have been completed quickly and without major complication.”
