McLintock leaves Squire Sanders for rival firm

PETER McLintock, one of Birmingham’s best-known dealmakers, has left law firm Squire Sanders for city rival Mills & Reeve.

McLintock specialises in all aspects of corporate finance and is regarded as one of the country’s preeminent private equity lawyers. He was a partner at Squire Sanders – formerly Hammonds – for eight years.

During his time at Squire Sanders, McLintock was instrumental in building the corporate team and advised on deals such as the £30m buyout of Team Telecom Group, the £40m secondary buyout of Airline Services Group and the $220m sale of Zeus Technology.

His appointment as corporate partner reinforces Mills & Reeve’s corporate finance intentions. In 2012 the firm advised on a record number of deals. These included advising Virgin Care on a £500m NHS contract.

McLintock said: “I have enjoyed my time at Squire Sanders. My team there and I have achieved much together. I am very excited to be joining Mills & Reeve at a time of its ambitious growth and to be making my own contribution to that growth. I look forward to the adventures ahead.

“I know Julian Smith and the Mills & Reeve corporate team well and have been impressed with the quality of the team and of the firm.”

Steve Allen, partner and head of Mills & Reeve’s Birmingham office, said:  “We have made considerable progress in the corporate finance market already. Increasing our firepower is critical to our plans of boosting our reputation in this field.

“Peter is widely regarded as a ‘big hitter’ in deal making circles. His standing, both in the Midlands and nationally, underlines our determination to become the law firm of choice for business in the region.”

McLintock’s appointment follows the recent recruitment of specialist corporate tax partner Kevin Lowe, who joined Mills & Reeve from Wragge & Co.
