Birmingham-made tyres chosen for world’s top endurance race

BIRMINGHAM-based tyre manufacturer Dunlop has been chosen as the exclusive tyre supplier for the longest circuit race in the world, the Maxi Endurance 48 hour race.

The race, which will take place for the first time at Navarra in Spain on March 15-17, is one of the premier events on the motorsport calendar.

Every competitor will race on Dunlop Tyres after the organisers chose the firm as supplier to the diverse grid of supercars and production touring cars set to contest the marathon event.

Gary Wassell, Car Motorsport Manager, said: “We are proud that the organisers of the world’s longest endurance race have chosen Dunlop. Our record across all the categories racing in this event, Prototype, GT and Touring Car means we have the expertise and range to service such a varied grid of cars.

“Our recent race winning experience is in championships such as World Endurance, German VLN, a class victory in the Le Mans 24 hour race. This success underlines our capability to support major prestigious events such as this event and is also the reason we have been chosen as sole tyre supplier to other major 24h endurance races.”

Dunlop’s heritage of performance is based on our success in endurance racing. In addition to being the most successful tyre manufacturer at the Le Mans 24h race, with 34 outright wins, Dunlop is also the Official Tyre of the Silverstone and Barcelona 24h races.

“Events like this are a true test of durability, quality and consistency as well as outright performance. That’s where Dunlop’s experience in endurance racing will help make this inaugural event one of the most exciting additions to the racing calendar in recent years” added Mr Wassell.

Dunlop’s racing tyres are designed and built at the company’s Motorsport Centre in Birmingham.  In addition to being Official Technical Partner to prestigious car manufacturers such as AMG Customer Sports, Renault Sport and Volkswagen Racing, Dunlop is also producing over 200,000 high technology racing tyres each year for the World Moto2 and Moto3 Motorcycle Championships, International GT and Endurance racing and for national motorsport championships such as the British Touring Car Championship and Dutch Supercar Championship.
