Monarch boosts airport’s summer schedule with new flights

LOW cost airline Monarch has boosted its service levels at Birmingham Airport with the announcement of two new routes.

For its summer 2013 season the airline will be flying services from Birmingham Airport to Split, Croatia’s second largest city, and the World Heritage City of Bordeaux.

The new routes will both operate three times a week from May 22.

Bordeaux is aiming to capitalise on the city break market and Monarch will operate flights on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered a jewel of 18th century architecture and is at the centre of one of the largest fine wine regions in the world.

Split, on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for holidaymakers, providing transport links to a number of islands including Solta and Brac, as well as other coastal towns and holiday destinations. Flights will operate on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The new route will complement Monarch’s existing Croatian route of Dubrovnik from Birmingham.

Kevin George, Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director said: “We are delighted to be adding two brand new routes from Birmingham airport offering our customers in the Midlands an even greater range of summer sun and destinations, bringing the total number of Monarch routes for 2013 from Birmingham Airport to 28.”

In addition to the new flights, the existing route to Mahon in Menorca will increase in frequency with one extra flight a week from May 4, 2013. It will operate every Friday throughout the summer, increasing the number of flights to Mahon to four per week.

Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, said: “Monarch Airlines is going from strength to strength, providing Midlanders with even more choice and affordable fares. We’re delighted that the airline is committing growth in Birmingham and the wider region and we look forward to welcoming these fantastic additions to our network this summer.”
