Mobile Fun on course for £12m sales after bumper Christmas

BIRMINGHAM-based online mobile phone accessories business Mobile Fun has announced record results for December following a bumper Christmas period.

The retailer recorded £3.5m of sales and 137,183 orders in Q4 2012, which represented increases of 23% and 18% respectively on Q4 2011. December was also a record breaking month with £1.3m in sales, together with over 53,000 orders and over 3.6m website visits.

MobileFun.co.uk, the company’s website saw an increase of 7% in both sales and orders on the same period last year.

Following the launch of new international websites during the year, including websites for the USA and Italy, orders from all international websites over the quarter grew by 57%, with corresponding sales growing by 80% to £1.3m.

The company’s websites for France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands further increased their market share, collectively delivering a like-for-like sales increase of 21%. Spain experienced the fastest annual growth rate, effectively doubling in size to provide over 3,600 orders in Q4 2012.

Mobile Fun’s LoveCases.co.uk website for camera accessories generated close to 4,000 orders in the quarter, adding to the company’s successful track record for launching new websites.

Mohammed Hussain, managing director, Mobile Fun, said: “Our Q4 sales underline the progress we’ve made over the past year. Our new websites, extensive range of accessories for major mobile devices and delivery speed drove the surge in orders.

“We’re excited to enter 2013 with our most successful Christmas ever behind us, and a strong team that is ready to build upon this success with the imminent launch of another twelve websites across Europe, South America and Asia.”

The company announced late last year that it was seeking a buyer to support its aggressive expansion ambitions.

Management strategy is to launch 20 international websites during the current financial year. These are expected to provide a platform for accelerated future growth and contribute significantly to the company’s strong financials.

Mobile Fun is currently on course to hit sales of £12m by the end of March.
