Monarch increases Barcelona flights from Birmingham

LOW cost airline Monarch has boosted its operations out of Birmingham by increasing the frequency of its Barcelona service.

From May 1, it will step up the number of flights from four-times-a-week to a daily service.

It said the Barcelona route had been such a popular choice with passengers from Birmingham since its introduction in July last year that it had opted to increase the number of flights to give customers even greater seat flexibility.

Kevin George, Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director, said: “We are really pleased to be increasing the frequency of this popular route from Birmingham airport. It offers customers in the West Midlands even greater flexibility on the length of their stay in Barcelona.”

William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Increasing the frequency of the Barcelona flight is great news as it will open up a greater choice for those wanting to reach this fantastic destination, which combines both beach and city. We are really pleased that Monarch has recognised the need for daily services from Birmingham.”

The move is a further boost to the airport and follows the announcement from Air Malta that it is to reintroduce charter flights from Birmingham Airport this summer.

The Maltese airline will operate two weekly charter flights to and from Birmingham every Tuesday and Friday between May and October.
