Staffordshire trailer firm pulls in record trading

A STAFFORDSHIRE-based trailer repairs and maintenance firm has announced record trading results.  Bullwell Trailer Solutions has seen profits rise for the fifth consecutive year.

The firm, based in Lichfield, said turnover increased by nearly £1m in 2012 to £7.5m (2011: £6.6m). The company said the result was attributable to an investment in new technology and facilities, along with an increased services offering.

The firm also operates a mobile service with engineers located across the UK; the intention being an engineer is never more than an hour away from a client.

The company, which employs almost 100 people, is predicting further growth in 2013, with a projected turnover in excess of £8.5m.

There are also plans to grow the business by expanding into Ireland. In support of UK growth the firm has also announced it is to recruit 12 new mobile engineers for bases in Milton Keynes, Luton and the Midlands.

Gary Bulley, managing director at Bullwell Trailer Solutions, said: “Since we acquired Bullwell in 2006 the company has gone from strength to strength. Today we maintain in excess of 5,000 trailers and look after a host of bluechip customers including DHL, TK Maxx and Royal Mail.

“Our main focus over the past seven years has been to bring quality to the trailer industry and we have done this by introducing bespoke vehicle diagnostic systems, keeping our vans updated to fit in with European emission standards, conducting regular health and safety checks, introducing more efficient services and operating frequent internal training courses.

“We have also kept up with local servicing demand at our Lichfield headquarters by introducing an on-site authorised testing facility (ATF) which means our customers can complete their pre-test inspections and final test at the same location, reducing the risk of faults and inconsistencies occurring between tests.”

Bullwell installed its ATF 18 months ago and has since tested 2,000 trailers, horse boxes, caravans and public service vehicles, achieving an average first time pass rate of 97%, above the national average.
