Sports bar business expands after new investment

AN investment of around £1m has enabled a Cannock-based sports bar business to open up a new outlet in Cheshire.

Bar Sport has ploughed the money into an American-themed venue in Wilmslow. The new bar will create more than 20 jobs.

The new outlet, which will include 50 HD and 3D televisions and an exclusive VIP area, is opening on tite of the former La Tasca restaurant on Parsonage Green, Alderley Road

Themed with authentic sports memorabilia, the venue will be on two floors with a bar and dance floor downstairs and the VIP area upstairs.

Bar Sport, which was first set up in a former Cannock cinema by ex-boxer Scott Murray in 1998, was one of the first American style themed bars and now operates eight franchises around the country but is growing all the time.

Daniel Slifkin, aged 45, Bar Sport franchisee at Wilmslow, said: “I am a huge sports fan myself and had thought about opening a sports bar for some time.

“I had seen the vacant premises on Parsonage Green and thought it would be an excellent opportunity. I did some research and found out about the Bar Sport franchise and knew it was for me. There isn’t anything like this in Wilmslow and I am hoping it will be a great success.

“There is a bar downstairs and we have created a special VIP area upstairs which can also be used for exclusive private parties. We have spent a lot of money on the venue to make it a special and unique venue for Wilmslow and we hope it will become very popular.”
