DBK appointed to One Martineau Place

PROPERTY and construction consultant DBK has been appointed to provide specialist advice on a new multi-million pound hotel scheme in Birmingham city centre.

The Birmingham-based team will act as employer’s agent on the conversion of One Martineau Place into a hotel and will also provide building surveying, CDM and quantity surveying advice.

The £35m conversion of One Martineau Place is being undertaken by client Cannock SP Ltd.

Mike Tracey, managing director of Cannock SP, said: “DBK’s track record clinched its appointment on our One Martineau Place scheme.  The team has the right experience and innovative approach and understanding that we were looking for.”

The former 13-storey office building is being converted into a 168-suite hotel which will be operated under InterContinental Hotel Group’s Staybridge Suite brand. This offers extended-stay guests a mix of home and hotel facilities with living areas and fully equipped kitchens.

There will also be new retail units at ground floor level, which are being marketed as potentially benefiting from the extension of the Midland Metro from Snow Hill to New Street Station.

Duncan Berry, managing partner of DBK, added: “The completion of Martineau Place will significantly improve a landmark area of Birmingham’s city centre landscape and bring a decayed building back into use.  We are delighted to be part of this transformation.”

Although headquartered in Birmingham, DBK also has offices in London, Bournemouth and Manchester.
