Built Environment Hub to be launched in Birmingham

DEVELOPERS, contractors, architects, engineers and building product manufacturers from across the Midlands will be gathering at the ICC in Birmingham on Friday morning to take part in the launch of the Built Environment Hub.

Keynote speaker Mark Barrow, strategic director of development and culture at Birmingham City Council, will be joined by Don Ward, chief executive of Constructing Excellence and Oliver Novakovic, director of building futures from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) who will highlight the importance of regional collaboration and technological advancements within the construction industry.

David Bucknall OBE, former chairman of Rider Levett Bucknall and of the RICS quantity surveyors and construction professional group, will chair the Built Environment Hub.

It is hoped it will influence policy and industry initiatives to safeguard the interests of the Midlands construction sector and the associated supply-chain.

The Hub will work closely with the national industry body, Constructing Excellence, to drive best practice in construction product and process innovation in the Midlands.

Bucknall said: “Coming out of the darkest recession in living memory we recognise that it is vitally important for the new Built Environment Hub to engage with the new look industry landscape. especially LEPs in the region and the rapidly recovering house-building and commercial property sectors.

“As such we would strongly encourage those involved at all levels within the built environment to attend this event and to hear what we have planned through this exciting development.”

The Built Environment Hub will replace the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence, and will take on a cross-Midlands remit.
