Lloyds TSB Commercial tees off for children’s charity

CHILDREN’S charity Promise Dreams has received a £3,200 donation after businesses from across the West Midlands attended a charity golf day hosted by Lloyds TSB Commercial Banking team in Wolverhampton.

The charity helps to make dreams come true for seriously and terminally ill children, and their families.

More than 50 people took part in the 18-hole tournament at South Staffordshire Golf Club, which was organised by Lloyds TSB Commercial Banking relationship manager Dave Rushton. It is the fourth year the Wolverhampton team has held the event, which last year raised £3,000 for charity.

In all, 18 teams took part in the competition, which saw victory for Andrew Price, from Towler Shaw Roberts Chartered Surveyors and James Coles, from law firm George Green.

Mr Rushton said: “The event was very well supported and everyone really enjoyed themselves, having some fun but at the same time, raising funds to support a very worthy cause. Promise Dreams does great work making dreams come true for ill children in the UK and we’re very proud to be supporting their work.”

Lloyds TSB Commercial Banking’s next charity event is an annual quiz, which takes place at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton on September 24.

To mark the occasion Mick, who is an Engineering PI Co-ordinator with JCB, will wear the number ‘1’ entry number and Charles, former JCB Group Electrical Engineer, number ‘30’. Money raised on the day and through sponsorship will be donated to the JCB’s nominated charity, the NSPCC.

Mick, who is also one of the event organisers said: “The JCB Lakeside Five and Fun run has gained in popularity every year and has become a real date on the calendar for local running clubs, JCB employees and families as well.  The first race attracted around 100 people, which gives you an indication of how it has grown.”

The charity was chosen by employees after they were invited to nominate causes and vote for the organisation they most wanted to work with.

They will get behind Marie Curie with a range of fundraising events and sponsored sporting activities, while also providing practical help through the society’s volunteering programme.

Chief Executive Jonathan Westhoff said: “The West Brom has a fantastic reputation for supporting people and communities in real need, and so much of this is thanks to the spirit of generosity and goodwill among our people.

“I know they will embrace this special charity and raise much-needed funds.  Marie Curie Cancer Care offers the highest level of support and care for people with a terminal illness through its network of specialist nurses and nine hospices across the UK.  It also gives those nearing the end of their lives the choice to die at home surrounded by the people and things they cherish.”

The society got into the swing of things to launch the new partnership with a charity golf day at Swindon Golf Club, near Wolverhampton, raising more than £3,000.

Arun Sharma, Head of Corporate Fundraising at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We are delighted that Marie Curie Cancer Care has been chosen as the West Brom’s charity partner for the next year.  The funds raised from the partnership will enable Marie Curie nurses to provide significantly more care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s hospices. “
