London Midland appoints new head of communications

TRAIN operator London Midland has appointed Francis Thomas as its new head of communications.

Thomas brings with him a wealth of cross-sector experience, including a decade spent with British Rail.

London Midland’s managing director Patrick Verwer said: “Francis’ track-record speaks for itself and, with experience within a number of high-profile organisations, I am sure that he will be an asset to the company.”

As well as his experience in the rail industry, Thomas has also held senior positions with the likes of Boots, LEGO and local and national government organisations

He said: “I began my railway career on this network so the opportunity to join London Midland was one that I couldn’t turn down.” 

Burnt Tree brings in new director of contract hire

VEHICLE hire company Burnt Tree has appointed Mark Howell as director of contract hire.

Howell brings with him more than 30 years’ experience in the multi-temperature and commercial vehicle contract hire sector, where he has developed long-term relationships with the leading supermarkets, restaurant chains and distributors.

Richard Metcalfe, chief executive of Shrewsbury-based Burnt Tree said:  “Mark boasts an impressive track record of success, which includes taking Carrier Transicold from third position to undisputed market leader and transforming Euroway into the successful business that led to its subsequent acquisition by Ryder last year.”

Howell said: “I’m looking forward to developing this new division of the business and applying my skills and knowledge to building a team of key industry sales personnel to sit alongside the already professional management and operational teams here at Burnt Tree.”

New chief operating officer for Voyage Care

LICHFIELD-based Voyage Care, the UK’s largest provider of support for people with learning disabilities, has appointed Kevin Roberts as its new chief operating officer.

He joins from Four Seasons Healthcare.

Reporting directly to Voyage Care’s chief executive Bruce McKendrick, Roberts will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at more than 360 care homes, day centres, respite and outreach services across the UK.

He will also be tasked with ensuring Voyage Care maintains its long standing reputation for high quality care and employee development.

McKendrick said: “In a sector that is becoming more stringently regulated, we are constantly striving to raise our standards and Kevin will be a key element in helping us achieve this.

“His expertise gained from spending more than eight years in the healthcare sector will add enormous value to an already strong, senior management team.”
