WALSALL Works has been successfully raising awareness of the benefits of taking on apprentices in Walsall. This was highlighted in a celebration event held on 12th June, in which both Apprentices and businesses were recognised for the commitment they have made to investing in the future skills of Walsall.

To keep the momentum going forward, Walsall Council will be hosting a Business Breakfast in the Council House on 5th July. This will be a great opportunity to ensure more businesses are able to take advantage of the Walsall Works grant while giving them the chance to meet with training providers able to deliver the right apprenticeships for them.

Businesses are encouraged to attend this breakfast meeting so they have an opportunity to learn more about both apprenticeships and their eligibility for a grant of up-to £6,000 for each apprentice taken on. This works out as around half of the apprentice’s wages for the first year and can really help employers looking to expand or develop their team.

Walsall Works, a multi-million pound regeneration programme operated by Walsall Council has been active for a year now and it is delivering on it’s aim of supporting businesses by making an investment towards developing their current and future workforce.

While there has already been a lot of interest in this investment, Walsall Council are looking for it to assist as many local businesses as possible. The programme focuses on investing in a range of growth sectors, such as engineering and manufacturing, construction, design, administration and health and social care.

The breakfast will include a presentation about the programme and how local companies have already benefited and it will also be a great opportunity to meet other businesses in the area.

One success story is TeePee Electrical in Bloxwich, which won the “Best Small Employer” award at Walsall Works’ recent celebration event. Steve Clarke, TeePee’s Managing Director has recruited two apprentices with Walsall Works grants and reported that “it has been a great help with moving our business forward. The markets have been tough but as a business we have progressed massively in the last 12 months.”

“It is key that we invest in infrastructure and Human Resources, therefore being able to tap into Walsall Works and invest in our two apprentices is a great platform and also satisfying”

If any business is interested in attending the Business Breakfast in Walsall Council House at 08:00 on Friday 5th July (hot and continental breakfast options will be available) or would like to discuss the programme further, they can contact Walsall Works on 01922 654 330 or by emailing their confirmation to walsallworks@walsall.gov.uk
