Business Link offers working capital workshops

COMPANIES looking to maximise their working capital have been invited to take part in a series of new workshops organised by Business Link West Midlands (BLWM).

The support organisation has joined forces with Connect Midlands to put on four interactive seminars that provide an insight into managing cash flow and identifying new sources of finance.

Starting at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce today (Tuesday), the events will also take in the Black Country, North Staffordshire and Worcestershire.

More than 150 people are expected to attend the sessions and will receive a range of practical tips to stop their companies suffering from a shortage of money.

Helen Goring, head of marketing and events at BLWM, said: “There is no doubt the recession has put an even bigger strain on the finances of companies of all sizes and working capital – even for the really successful firms – is hard to come by.

“These workshops are giving delegates an introduction into processes that may help them manage their finances more effectively, unlock cash in their business and importantly help them find new sources of funding.”

Connect Midlands, a not for profit network that assists Midlands-based companies to secure investment through training, mentoring and showcasing, will be delivering the workshops.

The sessions will cover four topics including importance of finance, managing cash flow, stock and credit control and identifying funding opportunities.

John Griffiths, of Connect Midlands, said: “If we are going to bounce back out of this downturn, we need to make sure start-ups and established firms have access to the working capital they need to run their businesses and take advantage of any opportunities that come their way.

“There are a lot of simple, cost-effective processes that can be introduced to manage cash flow and we can provide initial support to help make them more investment ready for traditional bank finance, private equity, business angels and Investbx, the regional stock exchange.”

Further events takes place at: The Public, West Bromwich (August 17); North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, Stoke-on-Trent (September 7); and Worcester Rugby Club (September 16).
