New Smith Cooper role for Hendley after 23 years with KPMG

ONE of Birmingham’s best-known financial services professionals has taken up a new role.  After 23 years with KPMG, 11 as a partner, Jackie Hendley has joined accountants Smith Cooper as their Head of Tax.

Having previously been responsible for managing various teams and delivering tax services to KPMG’s clients across Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham Ms Hendley and her broad range of skills are well known across the Midlands region.

As well as her role at KPMG, she has been an active member of the Birmingham business community where she was a finalist of Business Women of the Year and has chaired Birmingham Forward, an organisation she is still actively involved with.

Smith Cooper said her appointment enhanced the Birmingham team and demonstrated the firm’s commitment to the city by recruiting the best people in the market.

Ms Hendley said: “Smith Cooper is well known for its commitment to local businesses. In addition to driving the tax practice forward, I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Jeremy Cope and the growing Birmingham team to further expand the service offering available to their clients.”

R&D Tax Claims recruits new consultant from MAS

Peter Roach, new consultant, R&D Tax Claims WOLVERHAMPTON tax specialist R&D Tax Claims has expanded with the addition of consultant Peter Roach, left. The appointment brings the firm’s roster of consultants to four.

R&D Tax Claims, based at Pendeford Business Park, assists companies which invest in research and development by helping them claim back extra tax relief on development costs.

Roach, who will specialise in helping the firm’s clients reclaim R&D corporation tax credits through the HMRC scheme, has joined from the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) West Midlands, where he spent 11 years as a Specialist Manufacturing Advisor.

Roach said: “Joining the team at R&D Tax Claims is a natural career progression for me. My entire professional life has centred on engineering and manufacturing and my time at MAS was involved in advising companies on innovation and change, new product development and knowledge management.”

Clement Keys promotes duo after commercial work increases

Gareth Jones moves up to service charge manager and Puneet Johal is promoted to assistant service charge manager within the team, now one of the largest specialist teams in the region.

Jones has been with for the firm for 13 years and his colleague, five. The firm said the promotions recognised their achievements and would enable the practice to support a raft of new commercial work, which includes shopping centres, office blocks, retail parks and industrial centres.
