Birmingham offers free office space to investors

FREE or discounted office space is to be offered to job-creating investors by city inward investment programme Business Birmingham.

The 800 sq ft space in the Custard Factory in Digbeth will, it is hoped, help attract eligible investors as part of a wider support programme that also includes recruitment services, PR support, and legal, banking and accountancy advice.

The programme offers discounted or free services and accommodation for eligible investors for an initial six-month period to help them set up and create jobs in the city.

Key businesses from across Birmingham have supported the initiative by providing their products and services, including:

 Auctus Management Group
 Birmingham Research Park
 Bridgestreet
 Bruntwood
 Custard Factory
 Deloitte
 DLA Piper
 Grad Central
 Hays
 Innovation Birmingham Campus
 KPMG
 Lloyds TSB
 PwC
 Royal Bank of Scotland
 RSM Tenon
 Squire Sanders
 Winning Pitch
 Winning Moves

Investors are also offered six months’ free membership as a commercial partner of Marketing Birmingham, which operates Business Birmingham.

Chris Loughran, senior partner at Deloitte in the Midlands – who sits on the board of Marketing Birmingham and chairs its inward investment committee – said: “Birmingham must continue to develop its offer for job-creating investors, and ensure that it remains competitive internationally, not just in the UK.

“By offering tangible incentives that will help investing businesses to locate and grow quickly, I am confident that this programme will make the city an even more attractive choice.”

Wouter Schuitemaker, investment director at Business Birmingham, said the programme had been designed to help both investors looking for new locations and local companies access new clients.

“Rather than move entire teams to a new location, the economic climate has led to more businesses setting up satellite offices as an initial step into a new market,” he said.

“Making this first stage easy and successful can lead to sustainable expansion and more jobs.

“The programme has been designed to help local companies as well as investors. By introducing them early on, they can nurture a relationship that leads to a longer-term, fruitful client arrangement.”

The space on offer is part of Zellig – the £10m, 100,000 sq ft restoration of the original Bird’s Custard factory.
