Electronics group Solid State looks to strong second half

REDDITCH-based electronics group Solid State has said it expects revenue to hold up well in the second half, boosting a “reasonable” start to its first half of the year.

The company, which supplies specialist industrial/ruggedised computers, electronic components, antennas, microwave systems and battery power solutions to the electronics market, said the traditional buying patterns of its customers had shown little sign of change.

In an AGM statement, the firm said order intake remained strong and margins were holding up well.

“The acquisition of Q-par in May of this year has proven to be a successful one.  The integration has been smooth and we are pleased to announce that trading at Q-par in this financial year is comfortably ahead of the comparative period in 2012.  New client discussions are buoyant, most notably with export opportunities in the transportation sector at an advanced stage,” it said.

“The board believes that Solid State is demonstrating its resilience in markets that continue to reflect a cautious approach to capital expenditure.  The niches that we service remain in demand with sentiment improving.”

The business, which employs 140 people, serves niche markets in oil & gas production, medical, construction, security, military and field maintenance. The company acts as both a distributor to OEMs and bespoke manufacturer of specialist units to clients with complex requirements.
