Acua aiming for peak performance

A TEAM from Coventry leadership development specialists Acua Solutions will be joined by businesses from across the West Midlands to climb two of the UK’s tallest mountains for charity.

As well as tackling Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis on foot, the group will also be cycling approximately 275 miles for the Acua Peak Performance Challenge, which takes place from September 11-15.

In addition to a team from Acua Solutions, based on Coventry Innovation Village, members of staff from West Midlands Fire Service, HS Marston Aerospace and Spirax Sarco will also be taking part in the trip, which is raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charities, Charge Family Support Group and Sue Ryder.

Coventry-based explorer Mark Wood will also be taking on the challenge.

Jeannine Mortlock, managing director of Acua Solutions, said: “The trip is going to be 297 miles in total and is going to be both physically and mentally gruelling.

“Those who are taking part are going to need mental toughness to complete the journey, which we are hoping will raise a lot of money for some very deserving causes.”

OGL Computer hits the ground running for BUPA’s Team Cure Leukaemia

MORE than 30 employees from OGL Computer are joining 400 Team Cure Leukaemia runners in the BUPA Great Birmingham Run on Sunday October 20.

OGL Computer, a Worcestershire based IT support and solutions company, hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the charity which funds specialist nurses to administer potentially life-saving drug trials.

OGL Computer runners are hoping they’re not left with egg on their face in their very own forfeit challenge for the team, as the person who secures the lowest fundraising total must wear a chicken suit for the duration of the BUPA Great Birmingham Run.

Runners from the OGL team have a variety of abilities; including regular marathon runners as well as those who have never run a marathon before. The team is now training up to three times a week to build up its stamina.

OGL Computer team leader Paul Colwell said: “I’m looking forward to the half marathon not only to push myself to get fit, but also to raise money for a fantastic charity which makes such a difference to people’s lives.”

Popular media quiz to raise money for Cure Leukaemia

BIRMINGHAM Press Club members are to battle it out again with the cream of the region’s public relations consultants as they go head-to-head in the third Annual Midlands Media Challenge.

As with last year’s pub-style charity quiz, organised by the Press Club and CIPR Midlands, the public relations membership organisation, a donation will be made to charity – this year going to Cure Leukaemia.

PR professionals and journalists from across the Midlands are invited to enter teams of four people to prove that they are the ultimate quiz contestants.

However, like last year, the quiz is open to businesses as well as those working in or with the media.

“In fact, anyone who enjoys a fun networking event can take part!” said Heart FM breakfast presenter Ed James, who will act as compere.

The event is being held at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham city centre on Wednesday September 25.
