Hairdressers plans growth following business makeover

A BLACK Country hair salon is targeting growth and new jobs after investing in a makeover of its own.

Number 10, which was formerly Elizabeth and Lee, in Albion Parade, Wall Heath, has been launched by owner Alison Webb. She is the third generation of her family to operate the business, which has been going for more than half a century.

Ms Webb’s grandmother Maisie Hodgkiss and son Paul Hodgkiss, Alison’s dad,  originally opened a salon in the village 51 years ago, later to be run by his wife Bonnie Thorpe.

The 37-year-old businesswoman said the name change was part of a longer-term plan to expand the business, which currently employs six staff.

She said; “I wanted to invest in the business and put my own stamp on it now that it is solely in my hands.

“I’m very lucky because over the years I’ve learned from my family not only how to cut and style hair but also how to run a very good salon which has a lot of loyal customers. I’ve also got a team of talented stylists around me who make sure we are ahead of some of the bigger city salons when it comes to current styles as well as making it a warm and friendly atmosphere.”

In addition to being salon-based Ms Webb and her team run services for on-location wedding hair and styling models for fashion shoots.
