Cuts blamed for weakening construction levels

CONCERNS about the scale of public sector cutbacks and continuing uncertainties about the economy are being blamed for a decline in construction work in the West Midlands during the second quarter of the year. Despite some encouraging signs at the beginning of the year, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) said its latest Construction Market Survey showed 2% more surveyors in the region had reported a fall rather than a rise in total construction workloads.
