Aedas recruits other property specialists to offer BIM masterclass

A MASTERCLASS in the use of building information modelling (BIM) during the design and build process of a construction project is to be staged by Aedas.

The architectural firm is putting on the event at its Colmore Plaza head office in Birmingham next Wednesday (December 11).

It has joined forces with nine other regional property and construction consultants to help deliver a hypothetical but realistic project in front of a live audience.

The core members of the team involved comprises Aedas, Brook Smith Planning, Cundall, WSP, Acivico, Gleeds, Rider Levett Bucknall, Galliford Try and NG Bailey.

The event is open to all members of the region’s construction sector.

Delegates will be able to examine the challenges of working with BIM from concept and design through to practical completion and interact with the process at every stage.

The day will be split into two parts, comprising planning, concept and design in the morning; followed by construction and client aftercare in the afternoon.

Marcus Wilkins, director of Aedas, said: “Central to the Government’s ambitions is adopting information rich BIM technologies and collaborative behaviours that will unlock new more efficient ways of working at all stage of a project’s lifecycle.

“This leaves us in no doubt that the future of the construction sector, both in the public and private sector, lies in the collaborative use of BIM.

“Aedas first embraced BIM technology in 2007 having recognized the early impact it would have on the construction industry. Its potential for creativity, communication and verification was impossible to ignore and we have successfully provide countless projects with improved project profitability and reduced timelines that provide measurable cost savings.

“We believe that there is a great learning experience to be had by staging an event that focuses on just this. It will show how each discipline uses BIM and the challenges and opportunities that can arise as a result.”

Aedas has used BIM technology on recent and on-going projects such as The Emporium Mall, the retail led scheme in Lahore.
