Healthcare win for Browne Jacobson

BIRMINGHAM law firm Browne Jacobson has added a major client to its burgeoning health practice.

The firm has secured a place on the prestigious NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) legal services framework panel.

NHS SBS, a joint venture between the Department of Health and Steria, provides finance and accounting, procurement, employment services and primary care services to NHS clients.

Browne Jacobson is one of 22 law firms nationally to have won a place on the panel. The firm has been appointed for a two-year period with the option to extend for a further two years.

Its appointment means that, as an approved provider, it can tender for legal services work in 10 specialist areas from NHS SBS clients based in the North West, South West, Yorkshire and Humber, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London and South East Coast regions.

The 10 specialist areas cover NHS Governance, Primary Care Services, Healthcare Law, Mental Health, Employment, Contract & Commercial, Property, Construction, IT, Telecommunications & E-commerce and Corporate Finance & Projects.

Nicky Collins, Commercial Health Partner, led the firm’s NHS SBS submission. She said: “This is another feather in the cap for our flagship health practice and it complements our existing role as adviser to a large number and variety of NHS bodies.

“Competition for a place on the panel of pre-approved lawyers for NHS SBS was considerable so this latest appointment is a ringing endorsement of our healthcare teams and the quality of the work the firm has delivered and continues to deliver to the NHS.”

These latest successes follow on from the firm’s appointment in June this year to three major legal panels by the NHS Litigation Authority. Established in 1995, the NHS Litigation Authority is a Special Health Authority dealing with clinical and non-clinical claims made against the NHS in England.

The 80-strong healthcare team act for a broad range of public and independent healthcare organisations. In addition to the NHS LA the firm is also a legal panel adviser to the Medical Protection Society as well as a member of most of the large health sector procurement panels including the Health Trust Europe panel, London Procurement Partnership, the NHS Commercial Alliance panel (Eastern and South Eastern regions), North West Collaborative Procurement Hub and the CPC Hub (Yorkshire and Humberside).
