Train wash specialist Smith Bros & Webb cleans up with international orders worth £2.5m

WARWICKSHIRE vehicle and train washing specialist Smith Bros & Webb, has won new business worth more than £2.5m as investment increases in overseas railway networks.

The Alcester firm has won contracts in India and the Far East including the Mumbai Monorail and Metro for which the company is providing two Britannia Train Wash plants together with installations for Peenya & BYP in Bangalore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

It is hoping to add to these contract wins, with several other bids in the pipeline.

As every rail project is different, the company is required to provide a bespoke solution in each instance.

With a pedigree spanning back to 1886, Smith Bros & Webb designs and manufactures its own wash equipment under the brand name of Britannia.

The Britannia train washing system can be configured to accommodate any type of rolling stock and will efficiently wash anything from one single car to up to 200 carriages per hour setting the company apart from the competition.

Smith Bros & Webb has become synonymous with the sector, having supplied its services for more than 60 years.

Innovation has been at the core of the Britannia operation and it has helped it to stay one step ahead of its rivals.

Britannia director Andy Barracliffe said: “The global rail industry is going through a period of change particularly in Europe and Asia as investment is made in rail networks.

“There is no doubt there are exciting times ahead.  Our experience and reputation is unmatched in the marketplace placing us in an ideal position to capitalise on the growth in the marketplace and create a business which is at the forefront of the global vehicle washing marketplace.”
