Tenders invited for £100m National Automotive Innovation Campus

THE University of Warwick is inviting tenders for the construction of the new £100m National Automotive Innovation Campus.

The NAIC is a unique Research and Development facility designed for the UK automotive industry. Half the funding will come from Jaguar Land Rover with other funding coming from the government and Tata Motors European Technical Centre.

The centre will provide a national focus for research capability by combining expertise nationally and internationally from industry, universities, supply chain companies and SMEs.

More than 900 staff from WMG, Jaguar Land Rover, TMETC and other partners will work collaboratively on research projects to deliver world-class breakthrough products, processes and services.

The new centre will be a fully integrated component of the university and is intended to be a key driver for local and regional economic development.

The gross internal floor area of the single high quality building is circa 33,000m2 arranged across four floors of accommodation, combining new advanced research, engineering and design capabilities, education facilities and the staff accommodation for up to 1,000 people.

The contract may also include the fit-out, furniture and equipment for the centre.

Stakeholders believe the project could eventually yield a 10 times return on investment due to the innovative products and services which will be developed there.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, chairman of WMG, said last year that the new centre would be “an ‘engine’ for economic growth, with wide economic benefit, and sustained growth from the creation of world-leading technologies”.
