130 Colmore Row sold as Chinese investment in Birmingham grows
A LANDMARK office building in Birmingham’s business district has been sold to a Chinese consortium for an undisclosed sum by Birmingham City Council.
The Grade II listed 130 Colmore Row, on the corner of Colmore Row and Waterloo Street, has been bought by a group of investors from Hangzhou.
The consortium, worked alongside former Wragge & Co lawyers James Ng and Anthony McCourt – who is now a property developer – to get the multi-million pound deal done.
Reports suggests the consortium is drawing up plans to develop the building into a Chinese-focused business centre and a bar or restaurant. Recently opened Chinese restaurant Chung Ying Central is nearby at 126 Colmore Row.
The deal follows the first ever Chinese commercial property investment in the city, at Quayside Tower on Broad Street, in November.
130 Colmore Row measures 5,500 sq ft over three floors. It was once the office of Alliance Assurance but has more recently been used as the city council’s Birmingham Carers Centre.
