Poppleton & Appleby boosts hospital funds with painting purchase

BUSINESS rescue and insolvency firm Popleton & Appleby has swooped in to strengthen the donations raised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital after purchasing artwork created by a young heart patient.

Max Ponsonby, who lives in Bromsgrove, was asked to design a painting that would reflect his story as a patient, as part of a project to celebrate the hospital’s 150th anniversary.

The 15-year-old was born with a serious heart defect called ‘Pulmonary Atresia with VSD’ and has already undergone two life-saving operations, the first of which when he was just four-days-old.

After spending long periods of time at the children’s hospital, Max was inspired by the idea of creating a super-hero ward and decided to paint himself, his friends and the doctors with supernatural powers.

Max’s painting was one of 150 pieces showcased as part of the ‘My Beautiful Children’s Hospital’ exhibition before business recovery and insolvency experts Poppleton & Appleby purchased the canvas during an online auction held to boost funds for the hospital.

KPMG team provides advice at charity workshop

A team of 12 attended a workshop organised by SIFA Fireside in the city’s Digbeth area – a local charity tackling homelessness, alcohol misuse and social exclusion – to provide guidance on job hunting, interview skills and building confidence.

The team worked with SIFA Fireside clients who are keen to get their lives back on track but who have been struggling to find a job.

Matt Payne, associate partner at KPMG, said: “The job market remains challenging for many and when you have been out of employment for any length of time it is easy to lose confidence and find it challenging to get back into work.

“When you add to this financial and health worries, there are many factors working against you at a time when you should be able to present yourself in a confident and positive manner.”
