Five Guys arrive in the Bullring

AMERICAN burger brand Five Guys is expanding its UK portfolio of restaurants with a new outlet in Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre.

The restaurant, which is set to create an undisclosed number of jobs, will be the brand’s first in the Midlands, and will open this summer on the Middle West Mall.

The move also ties in with the strategy by property group Hammerson, 50% owner of the centre, to increase the food offering at the mall.

Operating in a crowded market, Five Guys tries to make its offering unique by focusing on serving high quality, fresh burgers and fries. It claims that with its choice of toppings there are 250,000 possible ways to customise a Five Guys burger.

The Bullring restaurant will also include Coca Cola’s Freestyle touch-screen soda machine, which includes over 100 flavour varieties.

John Eckbert, director of Five Guys UK, said: “We are thrilled to be a part of Bullring and the other great eateries in the centre. We are looking forward to building a great relationship with West Midlands patrons.”

Eastern European restaurant opens in Wolverhampton

EASTERN European restaurant Skalsa has opened its doors in Cleveland Parade in the redeveloped Southside area of Wolverhampton.

Andrius Anuska, who owns Restaurant Skalsa, said: “It is early days but the restaurant is doing well and we are attracting customers from across the Midlands.

“It is a challenge for any new business starting up anywhere but we are confident for the future.

“We also received a lot of support from the council, which we are very grateful for, and it is refreshing to see so many new businesses opening up in the area.”

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration and prosperity, said: “I am delighted to welcome Andrius and Restaurant Skalsa into the area.

“The aim was to breathe new life into this part of the city and we are certainly helping to achieve that.”
