MG debuts electric vehicle concept to assess European demand

BIRMINGHAM-based carmaker MG UK has developed a new electric vehicle concept to help determine European demand for such a car.

The company is taking part in an event in London organised by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders where it is displaying the car, dubbed the Dynamo, for the first time in public.

The concept vehicle encompasses the latest in design and engineering technology developed by the Chinese-owned company.

“The Dynamo has been developed in order to fully understand European market demand for a small, electric MG,” said MG.

The concept vehicle is the latest MG to be created at SAIC Motor’s state of the art European Design and Technical Centre (SMTC), located at Longbridge.

The company is undergoing something of a renaissance of late. Latest figures from the SMMT show MG as the fastest growing manufacturer in the UK, for both March and the first quarter.

Growth owes much to the success of its MG3 supermini and an expansion of its dealer network. However, volumes remain small; although it has hopes a new, more efficient diesel engine will make its MG6 a contender for fleet sales.

What demand will be like for an MG EV has still to be determined.
