£85m Parkgate retail and leisure scheme set to open in Solihull

THE £85m retail-led Parkgate scheme in Shirley, Solihull, will open to the public on Monday.

The retail, leisure and residential project has been  developed by Shirley Advance, a joint venture between Helical Retail and Coltham Developments.

Masterplanned by Davis Weatherill Partnership Architects and with the main build carried out by BAM Construction, the scheme includes an 80,000 sq ft ASDA store together with 26 new shops, cafes and restaurants.

Occupiers include JD Wetherspoon, Pizza Express, Prezzo, Perios, Starbucks, Shake Waffle and Roll, Loungers, Peacocks, 99p Stores, Mobile PC, Phones 4U, Capricorn Blinds and Greggs.

The Gym – which will be open 24/7 – and the relocated Shirley Library also form part of the scheme  Parking is provided in a 500 space basement car park.

The residential element is made up of 72 residential units including 41 three/four-bedroom townhouses and 31 one/two bedroom apartments. 

Shirley Advance is developing two blocks, with Bloor Homes developing a further three. 

Solihull Care Housing Association is also building an Extra Care housing scheme for the elderly. The scheme will provide a total of 51 ‘affordable’ flats, 33 of which will be one-bedroom for rent and the remaining 18 two-bedroom flats for sale on a shared ownership basis.
