New pictures and website launch for Bullring project

A NEW website has been launched featuring old and new images as part of a planned new restaurant quarter at the Bullring in Birmingham.

Real estate company Hammerson, which co-owns the shopping centre with Henderson Global Investors and Future Fund, is the leading the development project to build three new restaurants on the site of the former Spiceal Street.

The Bullring hopes to create a seven-strong restaurant quarter adjacent to St Martin’s Square featuring the three units, TV chef Jamie Oliver’s Italian due to open next month and existing businesses Pizza Hut, Nando’s and Wagamama.

Bullring general manager Tim Walley and Lawrence Hutchings, managing director of Hammerson UK retail, are blogging about the project on the new website spicealstreet.co.uk.

An exhibition was also held at the Bullring to showcase the project and give visitors the chance to quiz the team behind the development which is expected to be completed by autumn 2011.

Mr Hutchings said: “It’s important that we respect the setting of the iconic architecture of both Bullring and St Martin’s Square, and the ribbon design of the roof of this new Spiceal Street development will add another dimension to the mix, making sure that Birmingham’s reputation as a world class capital is strengthened further.

“For a large number of people, restaurants form the backdrop to many of life’s social occasions.

“It’s important to create an atmosphere with good food to enhance the experience, and that’s what we are aiming for at Bullring.”

A planning application will be submitted to Birmingham City Council before Christmas.
