‘Man who saved Jaguar’ Nick Scheele dies at 70

SIR Nick Scheele, who was CEO of Jaguar from 1992 until 1999, has died. He was 70.

Scheele was also president and chief operating officer at Ford in a long career at the very top of the international automotive industry.

He is sometimes credited as the man who saved Jaguar; making the car maker profitable when no-one thought it possible.

Scheele, who retired from Ford in February 2005, served as chancellor of the University of Warwick from 2002.

He raised thousands of pounds to help children’s charities in Coventry and Warwickshire.

He launched the Coventry Kids Committee in 1993 raising nearly £500,000  and allowing the NSPCC to build a centre in Coventry.

Scheele was knighted in 2001 for services to exports.

He is survived by his wife, three children and five grandchildren.
