Co-working event Jelly to launch in Birmingham

A CO-WORKING event aimed at very small businesses which is growing in popularity across Shropshire is coming to Birmingham for the first time next month.

‘Jelly’ events are designed to give people who work at home the chance to enjoy the office environment for a day away from the confines of their own four walls and meet other like-minded business people.

The concept, which was started by two freelance IT workers in New York in 2006, is already proving popular in rural Shropshire with more events and attendees jumping on board every month.

Although principally aimed at people who work in their own homes, all are welcome.

Jelly events are free to attend and the larger ones are often held at hotels or business centres which usually offer services such as Wi-Fi internet access for free.

Birmingham-based businesswoman and homeworker Rickie Josen, who used to live in New York, has now decided to launch a new Jelly fraternity in the centre of Birmingham.

She told TheBusinessDesk.com: “There’s a need in Birmingham and I have been talking to ‘Jellyists’ in Shropshire about their events.

“There has already been interest in the event, mainly on Twitter, and I have some people signed up for it because they know about Shropshire Jelly.

“I think it’s amazing that one does not already exist.”

The first Jelly in Birmingham will run all day from 9am on October 5 at Urban Coffee Company, in Church Street.
