Adee Phelan sets up shop at The Custard Factory

CELEBRITY hairdresser Adee Phelan has opened his second salon in Birmingham. The new outlet at The Custard Factory in Digbeth also includes a photography studio.

The new salon at The Old Bank building offers an extensive range of services, including colouring, cutting, extensions and creative hair design, as well as the new addition of private botox sessions. Makeover and photography sessions will also be available in two themed rooms.

The hairdresser has been a fixture in the city for almost three years, following his decision to establish his first Birmingham salon at The Cube.

The space at The Custard Factory has been carefully designed to combine the building’s period features with the contemporary styling Phelan’s salons have become renowned for. The salon is marked out by a bright yellow King-Kong, standing guard above the entrance.

Phelan is getting back to his roots somewhat, and will be back behind the chair himself cutting hair for the next few months.

Phelan said: “Finding my new salon was like buying a house, you search and search for the perfect place and then suddenly you walk through the door and you think this is it, I want this. That’s how I felt when I stepped into the Custard Factory, it felt like home.

“There was a lot of work to be done on the building and it was a big challenge but now I am blessed to have a beautiful four-story listed building in an area of town that is the perfect fit – bohemian, eclectic and creative.

“As a hairdresser you spend a lot of time at work. You have to love the place you work in, and I do. I’ve felt more welcome than in any other place and I think my clients will love it too.”

The award-winning hair-dresser has an impressive client list, including Liza Minnelli, Piers Morgan, Tom Daley and who can forget photo shoots with David Beckham. Phelan became a household name after creating Beckham’s infamous Mohawk for the GQ shoot before the World Cup in 2002, a cut which won him ‘Image of the Year.’

He went on to appear on Channel 4’s reality series The Salon. His TV shows since have included The Secret Millionaire, BBC Young Hairdresser of the Year and End it Like Beckham.
