Motorpoint set to create new jobs in Birmingham with online sales centre

CAR supermarket group, Motorpoint, is to expand its presence in Birmingham with the opening of a new online sales centre, creating 20 new jobs.

The firm, which opened its Aston base in July last year, has already started work on the purpose-built centre, which will be based at the Lichfield Road site.

It is also mounting a recruitment drive, with vacancies expected to be filled over the coming weeks.

The 2,000 sq ft premises have been specifically created to meet strong demand from customers looking to buy their next car online. Motorpoint, which has seven sites around the country, currently sells more than 900 cars a month via its website.

The company launched its first online sales centre in Derby in 2000. Today, the business receives over 120,000 calls a year from people across the UK and Ireland looking for a cheap deal on their next car.

It currently stocks more than 4,000 new and nearly new low mileage cars from over 30 different manufacturers.

The Motorpoint website receives around 700,000 unique visits a month – equivalent to 20% of all visits to car supermarket websites across the country.

Jon Baird, General Manager of Motorpoint Online Sales, said: “The continued success of our online sales division over the past decade has meant that we have outgrown our existing premises.

“This has been the driver behind our decision to invest in a second online sales centre on our site in Birmingham to ensure we have sufficient resources to meet the ever increasing demand from people looking to buy their next car from Motorpoint online.”

Established in 1998, Motorpoint also has operations in Burnley, Chingford, Derby, Glasgow, Newport, and Peterborough.
