bet365 named among top tech companies in countdown

THREE technology companies headquartered in the West Midlands have made it onto the 10th annual Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 countdown.

The table ranks Britain’s top 100 privately-owned technology, media and telecoms companies with the fastest-growing sales over the last three years of available accounts.

Highest placed of the region’s firms is the online bookmaker bet365, based in Stoke-on-Trent, which climbed four places from last year’s ranking to 31.

According to the countdown, it has seen an annual sales growth of 62% over the past three years, employs 1,836 staff and its website is available in 17 languages.

In 60th place is Birmingham-based IT reseller Probrand. Ranked 62nd in the 2009 list, the firm has an annual sales growth over the past three years of 45%, employs 69 staff and has recently launched a security division.

Completing the West Midlands trio in 89th place is communications provider Entanet International.

The Telford company, which employs 75 people, dropped down 28 places from last year’s list with an annual sales growth of 37% over the past three years.

The companies appear alongside a host of household names that have featured over the past decade including social networking website Friends Reunited, online map provider Multimap.com and online fashion retailer NET-A-PORTER.com.

Scott Dodds, general manager of business strategy and marketing at Microsoft, said: “It is great to see privately-owned technology companies in the Midlands making a positive contribution to the technology industry despite tough economic conditions.

“A new trend this year is that more than a fifth of these innovative Tech Track 100 companies are bringing the flexibility and cost savings of cloud computing to big and small businesses.”

A total of 52 of the 100 companies in the list are based in London, 17 in the South East, 10 in the north of England, six in the East Midlands, five in the South West, four in Scotland and three in the east of England.
